Technical support for vehicles

Coding

To access intermodal transport, vehicles must be certified for rail transport. On behalf of the customer, Hupac codifies  vehicles, ensuring compatibility between vehicles and wagons on the desired traffic route.

ILU-Code

Since 2011, a single identification system for intermodal loading units has been in place. Containers, swap bodies and semi-trailers must have an ILU or BIC code to be accepted in unaccompanied combined transport in Europe.

The European ILU code is defined in standard EN 13044. It is used to identify non-ILU containers, swap bodies and semi-trailers in combined transport in Europe. The BIC code is a similar identifier defined in ISO 6346, which is primarily intended to identify ISO containers.

The ILU code can be requested via www.ilu-code.eu. Our technical service is available for further clarification.

Investments in vehicles

If the customer plans to build specific vehicles for combined transport, our technical support service is available to provide technical advice and coordination with the manufacturer.

Works on the Rhine Valley line: all news about the replacement programme

From 8.4.22 to 24.4.22, extensive construction work take place on the Rhine Valley railway between Mannheim and Basel. During this period, the track capacity is greatly reduced due to various partial and full closures.

The replacement program

Together with DB Netze and our rail partners, we have drawn up a replacement program for around 70% of the regular trains. Just under half of these approximately 650 trains are scheduled via the Rhine Valley. All possible replacement capacities are used. The remaining volume is routed via the Gäubahn, Brenner and France. For 70% of the trains, we can offer the P400 profile.

Over the Easter holidays, the Rhine Valley line will be closed from 14.4.22, 23.00, until 18.4.22. Practically NO trains can run via the Rhine Valley. The already limited capacity will be further reduced to almost zero. The diversionary routes via Gäubahn, France and Brenner can accommodate just under 50% of the traffic.

Further measures

Extra trains are running between Busto and Basel to support transalpine traffic.

A task force is on duty 24/7 to coordinate possible events with the railways. Every opportunity to use any capacity that may become available is seized.

Preparations for week 16, when the train program will be ramped up again, are in full swing.

The implementation

14.4.2022 - As expected, not all trains of the closely timed diversionary service can circulate due to various traffic incidents. About 15% of the replacement program is cancelled due to operational disturbances.
